About ER 308H
ER308H is a high-carbon stainless steel welding wire (20%Cr-10%Ni) designed for welding unstabilized austenitic stainless steels like 301, 302, and especially 304H, offering enhanced strength and creep resistance at high temperatures due to its restricted carbon content (0.04-0.08%). It provides strong, corrosion-resistant welds with excellent surface finish, used in chemical, petrochemical, dairy, and food processing industries for high-temperature applications.
Key Characteristics:
- Composition: 20% Chromium, 10% Nickel, with restricted Carbon (0.04-0.08%).
- Strength: Higher tensile and creep strength at elevated temperatures compared to standard 308.
- Corrosion Resistance: Good resistance to intergranular corrosion.
- Weld Quality: Produces smooth, shiny, radiographic-quality welds with controlled ferrite.
Applications:
- Welding AISI 301, 302, 304H stainless steels.
- Chemical, petrochemical, dairy, and pulp/paper industries.
- High-temperature service up to about 1290F (700C).
Welding Process:
- Used for MIG (GMAW) and TIG (GTAW) welding.
- Typically uses 100% Argon or Argon/2% Oxygen shielding gas.
