ER310 is a high-chromium, high-nickel austenitic stainless steel filler metal (wire/rod) used for welding similar stainless steels, clad steels, and for joining stainless to carbon steels, known for excellent high-temperature strength, oxidation, and scaling resistance (up to ~1200C). It's a fully austenitic deposit requiring low heat input and offers good toughness at cryogenic temperatures.
Key Characteristics
Composition: A 25% Chromium, 20% Nickel alloy.
Weld Deposit: Fully austenitic (no ferrite).
High-Temperature Performance: Excellent resistance to scaling and oxidation up to 1200C (2200F).
Low-Temperature Toughness: Good ductility and toughness down to -196C (-320F).
Applications: Furnace parts, heat treatment equipment, joining 304/310 steels, cladding carbon steel, and dissimilar welding (carbon to stainless).
Welding: Requires low heat input for best results; provides smooth arc and clean welds.
Applications
Similar Metals: Welding AISI 310, 304 clad, and other heat-resisting steels.
Dissimilar Metals: Joining carbon steel to 18/8 stainless steels.
High-Temp Service: Fabricating parts for high-temperature environments.
