• Composition: The typical chemical composition of the weld metal (when used with an appropriate flux) includes approximately 2.25-3.00% chromium and 0.90-1.10% molybdenum. This composition provides excellent high-temperature properties, creep resistance, and high strength.
• Welding Process: It is used in the Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) process, where the wire is continuously fed into the weld joint and covered by a protective layer of flux.
• Material Compatibility: It is suitable for welding low-alloy steels of similar chemical composition, often referred to as Grade 22 or F22 steels (e.g., ASTM A335 Grade P22, ASTM A387 Grade 22).
• Properties: The resulting weld deposit is known for high durability, corrosion resistance, and good mechanical properties.
• Preheat/Interpass Temperature: A preheat and interpass temperature of at least 350F (approx. 175C) should be maintained during welding to ensure proper results.
• Applications: It is primarily used in industries where high-temperature and high-pressure performance are critical, such as:
