About ER 309Lmo

ER309LMo is a stainless steel welding wire (GMAW/MIG, GTAW/TIG) with added Molybdenum (Mo) for enhanced pitting corrosion resistance, primarily used for welding dissimilar metals like austenitic stainless steels to carbon/low-alloy steels, and for buffer layers in cladding applications, offering good oxidation resistance and mechanical strength, with low carbon content (L) to prevent sensitization.

Key Characteristics:

Composition: Contains ~24% Chromium, ~13% Nickel, and ~2.5% Molybdenum, with low carbon (L).
Added Molybdenum: Improves resistance to pitting corrosion, especially in halide-containing environments, compared to standard 309L.
Low Carbon: Reduces the risk of intergranular corrosion (sensitization).

Primary Applications:

Dissimilar Metal Welding: Joining stainless steels (like 304L, 316L) to carbon or low-alloy steels.
Buffer Layers: Used as the first layer (buffer) when cladding low-alloy steels with stainless steel (e.g., to achieve a 316L surface).
Overlay Welding: For cladding applications requiring good corrosion and heat resistance.
