About ER 308L
ER308L is a low-carbon (L) stainless steel filler metal, typically 20% Chromium/10% Nickel, used for welding similar austenitic steels (like 304L) in TIG/MIG processes, offering excellent corrosion resistance, especially against intergranular corrosion due to its low carbon content, making it ideal for food, medical, and chemical applications requiring smooth, strong welds.
Key Characteristics
- Composition: A 20Cr-10Ni grade with ultra-low carbon (<=0.03%), preventing carbide precipitation.
- Corrosion Resistance: Superior resistance to intergranular corrosion, even after welding.
- Weldability: Provides stable arcs, smooth flow, low spatter, and excellent bead finish for both TIG (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) and MIG (Gas Metal Arc Welding).
- Mechanical Properties: Offers good strength, toughness (even at cryogenic temperatures), and high-temperature performance.
