About ER 317L
ER 317L is a low-carbon, molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel filler metal (wire/rod) known for high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, and toughness, especially in severe corrosive environments like petrochemicals, pulp/paper, and fertilizer industries, making it ideal for welding similar steels and resistant to pitting, crevice, and intergranular corrosion.
Key Characteristics
- Composition: Contains higher molybdenum (around 3-4%) and lower carbon (<0.03%) than 304/304L, providing superior resistance.
- Corrosion Resistance: Excellent resistance to general corrosion, pitting, crevice corrosion, and intergranular corrosion (due to low carbon).
- Strength: Maintains high strength and toughness, even at cryogenic temperatures.
- Weldability: Suitable for GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), and SAW, offering smooth arc, good flow, and radiographic quality welds.
