About ER 385 (904L)

ER385 (904L) is a high-alloy, "super austenitic" stainless steel filler metal (wire/rod) known for excellent corrosion resistance, especially in sulfuric, phosphoric, and acetic acid environments, and chloride-containing media, used for welding similar 904L/317L materials in chemical, pharmaceutical, and paper industries, offering superior pitting/crevice resistance and low hot cracking due to low C, Si, S, P, and added Cu/Mo.

Key Characteristics:

Composition: High Nickel (Ni) and Molybdenum (Mo), plus Copper (Cu).
Microstructure: Fully austenitic, ferrite-free, reducing sigma phase precipitation.
