ER80S-B2 is a copper-coated, low-alloy steel welding wire/rod containing 1.25% Chromium (Cr) and 0.5% Molybdenum (Mo), designed for welding creep-resistant steels used in high-temperature applications like power plants and refineries. It provides excellent mechanical properties, radiographic quality welds, and good high-temperature strength, suitable for ASTM A335 Grade P11/P12 and similar Cr-Mo steels in elevated temperature and corrosive environments.
Key Characteristics & Properties:
Composition: ~1.25% Cr, ~0.5% Mo.
Type: Solid, copper-coated low alloy steel.
Performance: Smooth arc, stable, spatter-free, notch-free deposits with excellent mechanical strength at high temps.
Applications: Power generation (boilers, steam pipes, turbines), petrochemicals, fertilizer plants, and for joining dissimilar Cr-Mo and carbon steels.
Welding Considerations:
Preheat & Post-Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT): Careful control of preheat (around 150-200C) and PWHT (around 690C) is crucial to prevent cracking.
Shielding Gas: Typically uses Argon (Ar) or Argon/CO2 mixes for MIG/MAG, and 100% Argon for TIG.
Standards: Conforms to AWS A5.28 ER80S-B2.
In Summary:
ER80S-B2 is the go-to filler metal for demanding Cr-Mo steel fabrication and repair where high heat and corrosive conditions are present, ensuring strong, reliable, high-quality welds.
