About ER 410 NiMo

ER 410NiMo is a high-strength, martensitic stainless steel welding wire (AWS A5.9) containing Chromium, Nickel, and Molybdenum, designed for welding similar cast/wrought steels, offering superior corrosion, pitting, and stress corrosion cracking resistance, plus good sub-zero toughness, making it ideal for hydropower, pumps, and valves. It requires preheating and specific post-weld heat treatments (PWHT) to achieve optimal ductility and properties, avoiding excessive hardening.

Key Characteristics:

Type: Martensitic Stainless Steel Filler Metal.
Composition: ~12% Chromium, ~4-5% Nickel, ~0.5% Molybdenum (low Carbon).
Properties: High strength, good toughness (even sub-zero), excellent resistance to cavitation, pitting, and sulfide stress cracking.
Microstructure: Forms tempered martensite with retained austenite after PWHT.

Applications:

Welding 13Cr-4Ni stainless steels (ASTM CA6NM, F6NM).
Hydraulic turbines, pump casings, valve bodies, impellers, and high-pressure piping.
Overlaying mild/CMn steels for wear/corrosion resistance.

Welding Considerations:

Preheat: Minimum 300F (150C).
Post-Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT): Critical for ductility; temperatures generally below 1150F (620C) to prevent re-hardening.
