About ER 5356
ER 5183 is a high-strength aluminum alloy welding filler metal (wire/rod) with significant magnesium (around 5%) and manganese, known for excellent crack resistance, high tensile strength, and superior corrosion resistance, especially in marine environments; it's ideal for welding high-magnesium base metals like 5083, 5086, and 5456 for applications in shipbuilding, cryogenics, and offshore structures, providing strong, tough welds that maintain a bright, white color after welding.

- Composition: Aluminum alloy with ~5% Magnesium (Mg), plus Manganese (Mn) and Chromium (Cr) for added strength.
- Strength: Offers high "as-welded" strength, often higher than other fillers like 5356 for certain base metals.
- Toughness: Provides excellent fracture and impact toughness.
- Corrosion Resistance: Excellent resistance to corrosion, particularly seawater, making it great for marine use.
