About ER 308L
ER308L is a low-carbon austenitic stainless steel welding wire (20%Cr-10%Ni) that provides excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion, making it ideal for welding similar stainless steels like Type 304L, 321, and 347, used in food, chemical, and medical industries, offering good weldability and performance for various applications.
Key Characteristics
- Low Carbon Content: The "L" signifies low carbon (typically <0.03%), which prevents carbide precipitation during welding, enhancing corrosion resistance.
- Corrosion Resistance: Offers excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion, making welds durable in corrosive environments.
- Composition: Primarily Chromium (around 20%) and Nickel (around 10%), similar to stainless steel 304, but with lower carbon.
- Weldability: Provides a stable arc, smooth flow, and spatter-free welds, resulting in good bead and surface finish.
Applications
- Welding of stainless steels like 301, 302, 304, 304L, 321, and 347.
- Food processing equipment, chemical tanks, piping systems, and medical devices.
- Overlays, surfacing, and repairing castings of similar materials.
- Suitable for cryogenic applications.
